James Lwin
PRESIDENT
James Lwin is a third-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations, majoring in International Relations. Passionate about Australian foreign policy and the civilian applications of military technologies, James’ studies have deepened his understanding of contemporary Australian national security concerns and future solutions to increase Australia’s role as a regional leader in the international community. Active within his community, James regularly engages in disability support services and social mentorship and volunteers at his local soup kitchen. As a member of Griffith University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship, James aspires to work for the United Nations to tackle wicked policy problems.

Ye Joon (Daniel) Kim
VICE PRESIDENT
Ye Joon (Daniel) Kim is a third-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations/Bachelor of Asian Studies, majoring in International Relations and Politics, Law and Justice in Asia. An emerging military analyst, his passions and extensive knowledge lies in Australian national security studies, modern applications of developing military technologies, strategy studies, and historical studies. Daniel’s academic career regularly incorporates his military background to analyse Australian national security policy trends whilst simultaneously deepening a comprehensive understanding of Australian foreign policy. When he is not studying as a full-time student, Daniel gives back to his community as an Army Reservist, where he serves as an infantry soldier. Daniel’s eventual goal is to combine his evolving military and educational experience to form a thorough security and defence basis at all levels.

Mackenzie Reeves
SECRETARY
Mackenzie Reeves is a third-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations, majoring in International Relations. Through her degree, she focuses on multilateral diplomacy, governance, wicked policy problems and the international authority of states. An aspiring diplomat and humanitarian affairs worker, her current goals are to work towards refining and to discover better lines of communication between states to address the delivery of humanitarian aid, economic policy and structural integrity of international organisations.

Tyrone Land is a second-year student completing a Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Law (Honours), majoring in Accounting. Motivated by the pursuit of applying theoretical knowledge practically, Tyrone’s personal and academic career is constantly evolving into new horizons. As a Griffith Business School Student Leadership Program member, Tyrone is a valued individual who regularly engages his university community. An aspiring policy researcher and parliamentarian, Tyrone is working to one day play a proactive role in shaping Australia’s future.

Dylan Morrison is a second-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations, majoring in Politics and Public Policy. Through his studies, Dylan hopes to one day play a leading role in solving Australia’s contemporary problems in energy consumption, corruption and foreign policy. A believer that Australia has a unique position in international affairs, he aspires to work towards a better and fairer future.

Rebecca Umutoni is a fourth-year student completing a Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Government and International Relations, majoring in International Relations. An aspiring policy researcher and historian, Rebecca utilises her degree to deepen her understanding of diplomacy and provide a comparative analysis of diplomatic relations between nations from antiquity to today. Outside of this, Rebecca intersects her studies with psychology and behavioural studies to pinpoint the human condition.

Quabad Penjweny is a fourth-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations, majoring in International Relations and Politics and Public Policy. Through his degree, his interests and specialisations focus on Australian foreign and national policy, international relations theory and political philosophy. Motivated by his community, Quabad aspires to serve Australia nationally and be a role model for the next generation.

Delaney Potoi
WELFARE COORDINATOR
Delaney Potoi is a first-year student completing a Bachelor of Nursing. As a health student, Delaney is passionate about the varying aspects of healthcare, from delivering effective patient care to learning about the complexities of human anatomy. Delaney has also undertaken studies in Paramedicine and has first-hand experience on the road with the Queensland Ambulance Service. This opportunity, combined with knowledge of the current healthcare system, has opened her horizon to other aspects of healthcare outside the confines of a clinical setting. In particular, Delaney is interested in expanding her knowledge on the issues within the current system and developing strategies to combat practices that negatively affect healthcare workers and their patients. Moreover, being of Samoan descent, Delaney is interested in learning more about the journey of ethnic individuals within the healthcare system in an ever-growing multicultural Australia.

Phoenix Potoi
EXECUTIVE ADVISOR
Phoenix Potoi is a fourth-year student completing a Bachelor of Government and International Relations/Bachelor of Asian Studies, majoring in International Relations and Politics, Law and Justice in Asia. An aspiring Political Scientist, Phoenix’s interests are in International Relations, Political Economy, Political Philosophy, Sociocultural Anthropology and Communist and Post-Communist Studies. Phoenix’s academic journey has led him to an interest in the Australia-China bilateral relationship and Chinese governance. His works examine the political economy and ideological genealogy of Chinese Socialist-Consultative Governance and how ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era’ seeks to elevate China into a ‘Great Modern Socialist Country’. Outside the Australia-China bilateral relationship, Phoenix’s work explores Pasifika Sociocultural Anthropology, Feminism, National Self-Determination, and contemporary Communism (Marxism-Leninism-Maoism) in Asia. In 2021, Phoenix was awarded the Australian Government’s prestigious New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarship for China, with plans to study at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
